"The old man's charter said 'ships for the people.' A planet is people too — if you listen."Harkon Y, defending the ECOS partnership

Fimbul ECOS is a splinter from Fimbul Industries led by Harkon Y — the eldest and most ideologically driven of Ben Y's sons. When the family schism shattered Fimbul's unity, Harkon chose to wed both his engineering talent and his personal life to the ECOS cause, marrying Arch Druidess Thyra Greenveil and relocating his operations to the Hanging Gardens.

This union fused Fimbul's engineering pedigree with ECOS's ecological crusade, producing the most powerful ecological war machines in the galaxy. The crowning achievement: the Superphoenix — a titan-class nation-carrier that is simultaneously a warship, a cathedral, a farm, and a mobile ecosystem.

Fimbul ECOS exists in a strategic cocoon: the Hanging Gardens is in Ustur-aligned space — far from MUD's reach. This is not coincidence. ECOS fled to this region specifically because MUD would have destroyed them if geography allowed. The Superphoenix is the product of that shelter — decades of uninterrupted engineering in a sanctuary MUD cannot touch.

The Hanging Gardens — Why ECOS Survived

To understand Fimbul ECOS, you must understand why ECOS survived at all.

After the Old Grove catastrophe (~2435—2439) — where ECOS's terraforming destroyed a native civilization and then spiraled out of control — the primary ECOS fleet journeyed into the HRZ, founding Earth Prime. But satellite groves and support fleets remained behind in the MRZ. These remnants solidified ECOS's presence through the Hanging Gardens — the largest ECOS settlement outside Earth Prime.

The Hanging Gardens survives because it is in Ustur-influenced territory. MUD has never forgiven ECOS for the schism (~2401) — when ECOS dissidents discovered God Ahr was a Photoli alien and rejected MUD's theology. If MUD could reach the Hanging Gardens, they would have exterminated ECOS long ago. Ustur protection — whether intentional or passive — keeps ECOS alive.

This means Fimbul ECOS operates under a double shield: Ustur territorial influence keeps MUD out, and the Superphoenix keeps everyone else out.

History

The Schism (~2530s)

When Ben Y died, Harkon — the eldest — expected to inherit the company and transform it. His vision extended beyond his father's charter: ships should not just serve the people, they should serve the planet. The dispute with his brothers over this interpretation drove the Fimbul split into three factions:

Brother Faction Philosophy
Harkon Y (eldest) Fimbul ECOS Build for ECOS — ships must serve ecological principles
Leygos Y Fimbul BYOS Build for anyone — maximum profit, minimum ethics
Virtin Y (youngest) Fimbul Industries Continue Ben Y's original charter — ships for the people

Harkon took the military engineering talent and advanced R&D division. He moved to the Hanging Gardens, where ECOS influence was strongest, and began designing ships that integrated living systems with industrial engineering.

The Marriage (~2540s)

Harkon's marriage to Thyra Greenveil — one of the most powerful Arch Druidesses in the ECOS High Circle — was equal parts romance and strategic alliance. Thyra provided political access to the ECOS leadership and agricultural resources. Harkon provided the engineering capability to transform ECOS from an ecological movement into a military power.

Together, they designed the blueprint for what would become the Superphoenix.

The Superphoenix Project (~2590—2615)

The Superphoenix took approximately 25 years to build — the most ambitious engineering project in MRZ history. Harkon's team solved problems no shipbuilder had ever attempted: photosynthetic hull plating that heals battle damage, crop plains under artificial sunlight, parks with engineered firefly clouds, and a propulsion system powered by genesium resonance.

The titan was revealed to the galaxy in ~2615, shocking the galactic order overnight. No one expected ECOS — a faction many dismissed as ecological extremists — to possess a titan-class warship rivaling the major factions' flagships.

COP Scrutiny (~2623)

Fimbul ECOS division resources were redirected during the COP MRZ Incursion — the ECOS-Fimbul joint programs faced scrutiny from the Council of Peace. COP's recent forays into the MRZ — including the Pergamos invasion (partly targeting Jorvik/ECOS influence) — have created palpable tension. If COP pushes into the Hanging Gardens, the Superphoenix stands ready. A confrontation between the Superphoenix and the COP armada could ignite another galactic war.

The Superphoenix

"This Fimbul masterpiece is the glistening ultimation of design for ferrying a small, flourishing nation of beings on a course through the sea of stars. Terrestrial comforts keep citizens grounded and healthy while on the Superphoenix's eternal cruise. Details small and large call attention to the symbiotic stewardship of nature with intentions to never lose sight of ECOS' shining ideals, even in the darkest recesses of space. This starship is truly an interstellar oasis and rejuvenating respite; it is often a welcome sight to perpetually space-bound travellers and explorers alike. Below decks the Superphoenix is as functional as its atriums are serene. There is no equal in preserving galactic balance." — Official description

Field Detail
Class Titan — biomechanical leviathan, largest ECOS vessel ever constructed
Length Classified — estimated 15+ kilometers
Hull Photosynthetic, self-healing — designed by Martuce Breeze. Repairs battle damage through accelerated biological growth
Weapons Siege solar cannon (primary), terraforming warheads (strategic), defensive spore clouds
Core Genesium resonance engine — nature unknown, partially biological
Interior Grass-floored hangars, crop plains under artificial sunlight, parks with firefly clouds, spiral gardens, meditation groves
Population Estimated 50,000+ permanent crew and residents
Role Mobile HQ for Balifa Grove, ECOS cathedral, ecological siege engine
Commander Arch Druidess Andreza Liora — commands from the bridge-grove

The Superphoenix is not just a ship — it is a statement. It says that nature and technology are not opposed; that a warship can be a garden; that ECOS can match any faction's military capability while remaining true to its ecological philosophy. It is currently the most powerful ecological war machine in the galaxy — a nation-carrier housing a flourishing civilization, an interstellar oasis that is simultaneously capable of siege warfare.

"There is no equal in preserving galactic balance."

The ECOS Partnership

Sentient Planets

ECOS believes that all planets are sentient beings. They claim to communicate with these planetary entities through daily rituals, seeking guidance and blessings. In ~2477, ECOS reportedly succeeded for the first time in communicating with a "higher being" (planet) — refining their terraforming and communing technologies at the Hanging Gardens.

Whether this claim is genuine remains ambiguous. Fimbul ECOS operates under the assumption that it is — and designs ships accordingly. The Superphoenix's living systems are not aesthetic choices but theological ones: a ship that grows, breathes, and heals is a ship that participates in the planetary consciousness ECOS worships.

The Grove Doctrine (~2493)

With the Hanging Gardens secured, ECOS established the Grove Doctrine: druidesses must leave the Hanging Gardens and create their own "groves" in other sectors — spreading ECOS tenets, expanding influence, and protecting galactic wildlife. This missionary mechanism transformed ECOS from a localized faction into a galaxy-spanning movement.

Fimbul ECOS serves this doctrine by building the ships that carry the groves outward — transport vessels, agricultural platforms, and defensive frigates for the five major groves:

Grove Druidess Focus
Balifa Grove Andreza Liora Radical militancy — commands the Superphoenix
Thornveil Grove TBD TBD
Deepwell Grove TBD TBD
Lumiro Grove TBD TBD
Ashroot Grove TBD TBD
Duskbloom Grove TBD TBD

Agricultural Competition

The Hanging Gardens' agricultural prowess makes it a linchpin for MRZ food distribution — fierce competition with CARY, the civil branch of Calico (MUD manufacturer). Both vie to expand influence through strategic trade and commerce. Whoever feeds the MRZ controls significant geopolitical leverage. Fimbul ECOS's agricultural engineering supports this competition — their ships are designed to transport, grow, and distribute food as well as wage war.

Notable Members

Name Species Role
Harkon Y Human CEO — oldest Y brother, visionary engineer, ECOS true believer
Thyra Greenveil Human Co-leader — Arch Druidess, political liaison to ECOS High Circle
Gorhan 𐎏 Busan Sogmian Chief Naval Architect — led the Superphoenix engineering team for 25 years

The Brenneth Secret

Brenneth Y represents the hope of Y family reconciliation. While her father Harkon pressures Virtin to reunify under ECOS terms, Brenneth has quietly established a back-channel collaboration with her cousin Virtin on Nimbus Sphere technology — the one area where all three Fimbul branches share a common interest. If either patriarch discovered this cooperation, the consequences would be severe.

The Brenneth-Virtin channel is the most significant bridge in the Fimbul schism — and the most fragile.
