"When the Sogmian speak of Akalma, their voices drop. Not from contempt — from fear. The seventh house is a wound that has never healed."
House Akalma is the banished seventh house of the Sogmian species — once the most radiant dynasty under the charismatic Vega, now a scattered remnant of exiles, HRZ survivors, and redemption seekers led by a young prince born in a cosmic storm.
Akalma's history is the Sogmian species' darkest chapter: heresy, genocide, civil war, false accusation, exile, and near-extinction. They have been betrayed by their own people, hunted by the galaxy's most powerful armada, sheltered by alien entities in the galaxy's most dangerous region, and born again under a leader who refuses to choose between vengeance and submission.
Their return from the HRZ is the most politically destabilizing event in modern Sogmian history — because Akalma's existence forces every other house to confront a question they would rather avoid: Were we right to destroy them?
History¶
The Rise of Vega (~2399—2423)¶
Vega 𐎘 Akalma was the most charismatic Sogmian leader of the pre-war era. Elected Sov Arei (Supreme Leader) ~2399, Vega unified the houses under a vision of emotional openness and cultural renaissance. House Akalma's motto — "Embrace your emotions" — was radical for a species that traditionally channeled emotion through rigid hierarchical structures.
Under Vega, House Akalma flourished. Art, philosophy, and exploration expanded. The house's crimson red became the most recognized color in Sogmian space — a symbol of passion, innovation, and the belief that strength came from feeling deeply, not from suppressing feeling.
The Vega Fall (~2423)¶
Vega's vision collapsed into civil war — the Vega Fall — when the other houses turned against Akalma's cultural radicalism. The details are contested: Akalma's survivors claim the civil war was manufactured by houses threatened by Vega's reforms. The official Sogmian account blames Akalma's emotional philosophy for destabilizing the species' social fabric.
Vega was killed. House Akalma was stripped of its seats, its territories, and its status. The remnants were exiled to MRZ-12 — the sector that would later bear their name as Akalma Exile.
The Paizul Assassination (~2523)¶
A century after their exile, House Akalma was framed for the assassination of Sov Arei Paizul — the reigning Supreme Leader. The assassination triggered the Shattering — the catastrophic political collapse that fragmented the Sogmian species and made unified government impossible for generations.
Whether Akalma was genuinely responsible or deliberately framed remains the most divisive question in Sogmian historiography. The official account attributes the assassination to Akalma agents. Akalma survivors claim they were targeted precisely because they were already exiled and could not defend themselves politically.
The Sogmian response was devastating: the titan The Last Stand — one of the species' most powerful warships — was deployed against Akalma's exile settlement. The house was annihilated as a political force. Survivors scattered into the High-Risk Zone, beyond the reach of conventional pursuit.
The Oxir Encounter (~2544)¶
The surviving Akalma remnants — perhaps a few hundred individuals — drifted into the HRZ's deepest regions, where they encountered the Oxir — an alien entity or civilization about which almost nothing is publicly known. High Matron Odette sheltered the remnants, providing the dying house with a sanctuary that no other power in the galaxy offered.
What the Oxir asked in return — if anything — is unknown. But the Akalma survived the HRZ's dangers for nearly eighty years, which suggests that the Oxir's protection was substantial and sustained.
The Birth of Jefos (~2600)¶
Prince Jefos 𐏕 Akalma Kur'faist was born ~2600 in the HRZ — the first Akalma heir born in exile who had never known Sogmian civilization. At the moment of his birth, a Cosmic Current storm raged — a phenomenon so unusual in the HRZ that it drew attention from entities and observers across the region.
The storm was declared a prophetic sign by observers — an interpretation that bound the mystical to the political and positioned Jefos as something more than a displaced prince: a figure of cosmic significance whose destiny might reshape the galaxy.
The Departure (~2621)¶
At approximately age 21, Jefos departed the HRZ with a young crew — leaving the safety of Oxir protection to forge a new Du Prah (literally: "Way of Worth" — the Sogmian equivalent of a life-quest that defines one's contribution to the species).
Jefos chose neither the Old Guard's path of vengeance nor the Reformists' path of surrender. He chose a third path — one guided by emotional depth and purpose, carrying Akalma's crimson not as a stain of shame but as a promise of renewal.
The Full Lineage¶
House Akalma's surviving lineage is the most detailed noble genealogy among the exile houses:
| Name | Rank | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Vega 𐎘 Akalma Sov'arei | Supreme Leader (historical) | The exiled Sov Arei — killed in the Vega Fall (~2423) |
| High Matron Odette | Matriarch | Sheltered the remnants in the HRZ after the Shattering |
| Dareth 𐎉 Akalma Her'graf | Heir rank | Next-generation noble — HRZ survivor |
| Tessara 𐎉 Akalma Her'graf | Heir rank | Next-generation noble — HRZ survivor |
| Kolvus 𐏕 Akalma Mar'graf | Higher noble | Senior house member |
| Surenn 𐏕 Akalma Mar'graf | Higher noble | Senior house member |
| Jefos 𐏕 Akalma Kur'faist | Prince | Current House leader — born in HRZ ~2600, departed ~2621 |
| Lirath 𐏕 Akalma Frei'har | Free nobility | Younger generation |
| Naeven 𐏕 Akalma Rat'Prah | Noble advisor | Advisory role |
| Kethra 𐏕 Akalma Frei'har | Free nobility | Younger generation |
The lineage uses the traditional Sogmian generational marking system (𐎘 first generation, 𐎉 second, 𐏕 third and beyond). The hierarchy preserves pre-exile noble ranks despite the house's statelessness — a deliberate cultural choice to maintain identity through structure.
The Internal Schism¶
Akalma's surviving members are divided into three philosophical factions:
The Old Guard — Retribution¶
The oldest survivors. Warriors and nobles who remember the Shattering, the flight, and the years of near-starvation before the Oxir encounter. They believe the galaxy owes Akalma a blood debt — and that the only path forward is to claim it.
Their argument: Akalma was framed, hunted, and nearly exterminated by their own species. The houses that did this have never been held accountable. Justice requires retribution — not reconciliation with the architects of genocide.
The Reformists — Reconciliation¶
The pragmatists. Members who see Akalma's survival as proof of the house's strength and argue that the future lies in reintegration with Sogmian society. Retribution would only validate every accusation ever leveled against the house — that Akalma is violent, emotional, and dangerous.
Their argument: the best revenge is living well. Return to Sogmian civilization, demonstrate competence and restraint, and force the other houses to acknowledge that their destruction of Akalma was unjust.
Jefos — The Third Path¶
Jefos rejects both extremes. Retribution places Akalma's identity in the hands of its enemies — defining the house by what was done to it. Reconciliation asks Akalma to submit to the judgment of those who tried to destroy it. Neither is acceptable.
Jefos proposes a new Du Prah — a way of worth that defines Akalma by what it chooses to become, not what was done to it. "Embrace your emotions" — Vega's original motto — is reinterpreted as emotional depth guided by purpose. Feel everything. Lord over nothing.
Whether this philosophy can hold the house together — Old Guard veterans and Reformist pragmatists united under a 21-year-old prince — is the open question that defines Akalma's future.
The Akalma Question¶
House Akalma's return from the HRZ creates a political crisis for every Sogmian house. The crisis has three dimensions:
Legitimacy: Was the destruction of Akalma justified? If Akalma was framed for Paizul's assassination, then the Shattering — the defining event of modern Sogmian history — was built on a lie. Every house that participated in the destruction shares responsibility for genocide against the innocent.
Precedent: If a house can be framed, destroyed, and exiled without consequence, then no house is safe. Akalma's fate is a warning that any house could suffer the same treatment if political winds shift.
The Jefos Factor: Prince Jefos carries the cosmic storm of his birth and the survival of his impossible house. Whether he is a genuine figure of destiny or a talented young leader with a good origin story, his existence forces the Sogmian species to confront its worst historical crime in living memory.
Relations¶
| Faction | Relationship |
|---|---|
| All Sogmian Houses | Cultural exile — Akalma is taboo. No official contact, but Jefos's return forces engagement |
| MUD | MUD occupies the former Akalma Exile sector (MRZ-12) — territorial tension |
| Oxir | Sheltered Akalma in HRZ for ~80 years — nature of relationship unknown |
| Exile Scavengers | HRZ neighbors — possible contact during Akalma's exile |
| COP | No formal status — Akalma is not recognized by the COP as a legitimate political entity |

Galactic Indices¶
| Index | Rating | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| GFI (Force) | 3 | Tiny remnant — perhaps 200-300 individuals. But HRZ veterans are individually formidable. 80 years of survival in the galaxy's most dangerous region produces extraordinary resilience |
| GWI (Wealth) | 2 | Destitute exiles living on HRZ salvage and Oxir charity. No territory, no trade, no infrastructure |
| GPI (Political) | 5 | Their name reshapes conversations. Jefos's return could destabilize Sogmian politics — and by extension ONI faction dynamics — more than any military action |
