"Gilded by Punaab gold, hardened by Sogmian discipline, guided by Photoli wisdom, driven by Mierese prowess." — The Maharog chronicle, describing the ONI Consortium's founding
The Sogmian Sovereignty is the warrior civilization within the ONI Consortium — the species-state that provides ONI with its military backbone, its moral philosophy, and the Titan-class warship that forced the galaxy to sue for peace. Governed by the Du Prah — absolute moral vows that even the Sov Arei cannot break — the Sogmians are simultaneously the galaxy's most disciplined warriors and its most passionate romantics. Every Sogmian trains with weapons from childhood. Every Sogmian clings to honor with a fervor that other species find both admirable and terrifying.
Their history is one of extremes: near-extinction during the Convergence War (reduced to 10,000 survivors after Sov Arei Paizul's assassination), a desperate exile in the HRZ that forged both the ONI alliance and the Titan The Last Stand, a vengeful return that conquered their enemies and massacred their own fallen house — and a resignation that left the highest office in Sogmian civilization vacant for over a century.
Within ONI, the Sogmians are the iron. The Mierese provide cunning, the Punaab provide wealth, the Photoli provide guidance — but when ONI fights, it fights with Sogmian discipline, Sogmian ships, and Sogmian honor.
The Du Prah — The Vows That Make a Civilization¶
"Whenever a Sogmian swears an oath, two knots are born: one pulled tight where no hand can reach and one tied into the world. Only two blades may loose them: fulfillment or death." — The Unbroken Vow-Knot, from the Maharog chronicle
The Du Prah are absolute moral rules — categorical imperatives designed to contain the Sogmians' innate excesses (lust, greed, pride) and steer them toward virtue. Formulated by Segal the Wise (~1826), they transformed a species of feral combatants into a structured civilization.
Core Principles¶
- Must be upheld under any circumstances, even at the cost of one's life
- Stand for justice at all times
- Never go back on promises
- Use violence only when necessary to cease previous violence
- Cooperate for the greater good
- Provide shelter for those who seek it
The Du Prah is not a legal code — it is deeper than law. A Sogmian who violates the Du Prah becomes Dek'prah — honorless, stripped of virtually all rights. The Dek'prah designation is the Sogmian equivalent of civil death.
The Noble Houses — Six Pillars, One Exile¶
The seven Noble Houses were established by Segal alongside the Du Prah. Each embodies a different virtue and serves a different function within Sogmian civilization. Together, they form a complete society — warriors, scholars, explorers, humanitarians, leaders, and builders. The exile of House Akalma left a wound that has never healed.
| House | Color | Motto | Domain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xictus | Obsidian Black | "The brave only dies once. The coward dies every day." | Warriors — front lines of the Sogmian armada |
| Garveil | Azure | "Repetition is the mother of learning." | Scholars/Science — research, experimentation, method |
| Exinade | Vermilion | "To the Stars." | Scouts/Explorers — HRZ expeditions; never produced a Sov Arei |
| Outro | Snow White | "One who does not live to serve does not serve to live." | Humanitarian — charities, hospitals, farms, orphanages |
| Lutavira | Violet | "Rise, win, conquer." | Leaders — natural-born commanders, most fundamentalist Du Prah followers |
| Busan | Burnt Umber | "Your creations are your path to transcendence." | Crafters/Builders — ships, infrastructure, technology |
| Akalma | Crimson Red | "Embrace your emotions." | BANISHED — exiled after the Vega Fall coup (~2423) |
House Dynamics Within ONI¶
The Houses function as both internal governance structures and ONI institutional pillars:
- House Xictus provides the military command structure that ONI's combined fleets follow in wartime
- House Garveil works alongside the Iris Academy and contributes the scientific expertise that balances Sogmian martial tradition
- House Exinade produces the HRZ scouts and forward reconnaissance that ONI's expansion depends on — Yacob of House Exinade joined Ayevat's Denebula finance kingdom
- House Outro runs ONI's humanitarian operations and carries the deepest resentment over the Akalma Reckoning — their stewardship of the Akalma Exile sector was violated by Bekalu's attack
- House Lutavira provides ONI's political leadership and the most rigid Du Prah interpretation
- House Busan builds the ships that project ONI power — including the Titan The Last Stand, the warship that ended the Convergence War
The Gray Citadel — Where Sogmians Are Made¶
"The top student of the year is a strong candidate for Kur Faist — or Sov Arei."
The Gray Citadel is an enormous training complex spanning thousands of kilometers in the Segal Sector. Every Sogmian passes through its halls. It is where children become warriors, students become leaders, and the species' future is forged through structured competition.
The Process¶
- Born as Ke Pro (infant, lives with family)
- Parents bring child to the Citadel on a designated annual day
- Ceremony → accepted as Vok Prah (student)
- Training is harsh; performance dictates everything — including food, accommodations, family visits
- Higher floors = higher achievement — top performers live at the apex
- Students divided into competing classes with shared benefits and penalties
- A rigid point system functions as internal economy — earning and deducting points drives behavior
- Free day each week for relaxation
- Supervised missions as students mature
The Gray Citadel produces the bonds that sustain Sogmian civilization — most Sogmians form their closest friendships and alliances here. Its graduates fill every role from front-line warriors to House leaders to the Sov Arei herself.
Title Hierarchy¶
| Rank | Title | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Dek'prah | Honorless — betrayed Du Prah or species vow. Nearly no rights |
| 1 | Ke Pro | Infant, living with family |
| 2 | Vok Prah | Student in the Gray Citadel |
| 3 | Rat Prah | Graduate — made own moral rule, chosen by a house |
| 4 | Frei Har | Trusted to venture alone in Galia. Most adults stop here |
| 5 | Lan Fast | Supervisor of missions |
| 6 | Fur Raft | High-ranking officer |
| 7 | Graf Har | Professor at the Gray Citadel |
| 8 | Mar Graf | Commands house operations under the Her Graf |
| 9 | Her Graf | Direct advisor to the Kur Faist |
| 10 | Dum Arei | Head of the Gray Citadel — only person who does not bow to the Sov Arei |
| 11 | Kur Faist | Head of a Noble House. Absolute authority over their house |
| 12 | Sov Arei | Supreme Leader of ALL Sogmians |
History — The Making of a Warrior Species¶
Founding (~1826)¶
Segal the Wise formulated the Du Prah and established the Noble Houses, ending hundreds of years of brutal primal warfare. He died just four years later (~1830), but his system endured. The Sogmians rose from feral combatants to a structured civilization, ascending to the stars by ~2340.
The Vega Fall (~2416–2423)¶
Vega of House Akalma rose to Sov Arei through charisma and combat prowess, then led the Sogmians into tyranny — disregarding non-Sogmian allies, practicing cannibalism of other sentient species. When a reporter from House Outro exposed his crimes, the other houses rose in revolt. The civil war lasted three years. Vega was killed. Entire House Akalma was banished to exile. House Outro was rewarded with stewardship of the evacuated sector.
The Convergence War (~2520s)¶
The costliest chapter in Sogmian history:
- Sov Arei Paizul invoked the Sovereign Vow and personally inspected the Cataclysm
- Sogmians intervened to protect the Tufa — sentient beings enslaved and auctioned by galactic powers. The Du Prah demanded it: provide shelter for those who seek it
- The galaxy retaliated with sieges, famine, and military assaults
- Paizul was assassinated (2520-07-17) — killer unknown to this day
- The Sogmian species was reduced to ~10,000 survivors
- Bekalu led all Sogmians into HRZ exile
The Last Stand¶
In exile, Bekalu forged the ONI Consortium:
- A disguised Photoli taught House Garveil how to build the Titan's power source
- House Busan constructed The Last Stand mk. VIII — the first Titan-class warship, a fortified city large enough to house all surviving Sogmians
- The Titan was so terrifying that its mere appearance forced the galaxy to pursue peace talks
The Akalma Reckoning — and the Resignation¶
Before signing peace, Bekalu turned the ONI armada against the exiled House Akalma sector — devastating it against the wishes of House Outro. This act of vengeance broke something inside Bekalu and fractured the relationship between Houses Xictus and Outro.
Bekalu showed last-minute mercy — allowing Akalma fleets to retreat into the HRZ. He then imposed a self-edict: Sogmians are forbidden from the Akalma Expanse forever. Pressed with guilt, Bekalu resigned as Sov Arei (~2528). The position has remained vacant for over a century — no Sogmian has been deemed worthy to fill it.
The Maharog — Festival of Remembrance¶
A four-week memorial festival retelling the Sogmian journey from near-extinction to just peace. Based on The Chronicles of the Long Nights and The Upkept Oath by Meret 𐎉 Graf'har.
| Week | Name | Theme |
|---|---|---|
| I | The Shattering | Paizul's assassination, Bekalu's cry, the vow, departure into exile |
| II | The Exile | HRZ survival, forging The Last Stand, ONI Consortium formation |
| III | The Reckoning | Return with ONI armada, reconquest, Bekalu's restraint, Treaty of Peace |
| IV | The Accord | Homecoming, 9-day feast, Council of Peace creation, Golden Era dawn |
Visual symbols: Empty Circlet (grief), Unbroken Vow-Knot (oaths), Titan Keystone (The Last Stand).
The Vacant Throne¶
The Sov Arei position has been empty since ~2528 — the longest vacancy in Sogmian history. This is not an oversight. The Du Prah demands that the Sov Arei be "the most honorable and extraordinary of their generation" — and no Sogmian since Bekalu has been deemed to meet that standard.
The vacancy creates an unusual governance structure: each Kur Faist (house leader) rules their house with absolute authority, but no single figure unifies the species. In practice, inter-house disputes are resolved through the Dum Arei (Head of the Gray Citadel), who holds influence equal to any Kur Faist.
This power vacuum has implications for ONI as a whole: when the Sogmians speak with one voice, they speak through consensus of six Kur Faists — a process slower and more contentious than a single Sov Arei command.
Sogmian Territories¶
| Sector | Zone | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Segal | ONI 4 (Safe Zone) | Homeworld. Gray Citadel. Beacon of peace |
| Akalma Exile | MRZ-12 | Cursed ruins of House Akalma. Forbidden to Sogmians. MUD influence. Ghostly cries at night |
| Vega Fall | MRZ-24 | Site of Vega's coup and civil war. The name causes visible discomfort to any Sogmian |
The Return of House Akalma¶
"Prince Jefos was born in a cosmic storm and carries three hundred years of blood debt."
~2600: Jefos, prince of House Akalma, is born in HRZ exile — Cosmic Currents release an intense storm at his birth.
~2621: Jefos and a crew of young Akalma Sogmians leave the HRZ for the Medium Zone, seeking to redeem House Akalma. Whether he pursues vengeance or reconciliation will reshape both Sogmian and ONI faction dynamics. House Outro — stewards of the sector Bekalu devastated — watches with particular anxiety.
