Barrot Gateway (MRZ-14)

The Barrot Gateway sits within the heart of the ONI medium zone.

Overview

The Barrot Gateway sits within the heart of the ONI medium zone. Deceptively ordinary at first glance — boasting respectable mineral wealth but unremarkable biodiversity. Yet at its heart lies an enigmatic wormhole, a cosmic riddle that has transformed this sector into an intergalactic hub for tourism and speculation.

The Legend of Barrot

The Explorer

Barrot was a Sogmian of House Xictus. In the era preceding the Convergence War, he dared to approach the wormhole enigma. He died a few years before the current canon timeline — a legendary figure who entered Galia's permanent historical record.

The Journey

  • ~2495: A strange portal opens in MRZ-14 — Barrot enters
  • Barrot entered the wormhole and returned within moments
  • But he was obviously changed by the passage of time
  • His vessel was inexplicably different from when it departed
  • He possessed otherworldly trinkets that defied explanation

The Tale

Barrot described a realm beyond comprehension:

  • A place where the laws of gravity faltered and time held no dominion
  • Within this surreal world, he stumbled upon a grand mansion
  • Inside, an ethereal being challenged him to games of wit and strategy
  • Barrot triumphed over the trials
  • As reward, the being gifted him the enigmatic trinkets
  • He was then whisked back to Galia

What Really Happened (SECRET — Not Public Knowledge)

[!CAUTION] The following is canon truth but NOT public knowledge in-universe. Only the Archon and Creator know this.

The wormhole is a gateway to a pocket dimension in the HRZ controlled by a Photoli. This Photoli:

  • Lures "guests" into the pocket dimension through the wormhole
  • Challenges them to games — but these are survival trials, not mere puzzles
  • Awards prizes to the survivors
  • Broadcasts these events to other creatures and civilizations in the HRZ — a galactic blood sport disguised as entertainment
  • Barrot was one of the rare survivors who made it back to Galia

The Mass Crossing Attempts

  • ~2495: Following Barrot's fame, many people attempt to cross the now-famous Barrot Gateway
  • At this time, the gate was still approachable — people could enter
  • However, upon finding the trial on the other side, most quickly turned back, terrified for their lives
  • Only a handful returned, most of them heavily traumatized and refusing to talk about what they found
  • Those who pressed deeper into the trial were never seen again

Legacy

  • The veracity of Barrot's account remains the topic of endless public debate
  • While many entered the gateway in the early period, no one successfully replicated Barrot's full journey — most fled in terror, and those who pressed on never returned
  • ~2517: Barrot himself goes back inside the gateway to explore the strange dimension once more — he never returns. From this point, it becomes impossible to enter the portal
  • Over time, the public came to believe the wormhole is unapproachable (spatial distortion prevents approach — this may be connected to Barrot's final entry, or the Photoli's selective filtering)
  • The legend birthed an entire economy of gambling and tourism

The Artifacts

Barrot's Trinkets

  • Currently held by Barrot's family (House Xictus descendants)
  • Objects of immense speculation and study

The Temporal Pendant (Confirmed Artifact)

  • The only verified artifact from Barrot's journey
  • A pendant capable of traversing temporal distortions
  • This is how Barrot navigated back from the pocket dimension
  • Its properties defy conventional physics — a genuine anomaly
  • Location: with Barrot's family (House Xictus)

The Wormhole

Public Understanding (What Galia Knows)

  • The wormhole remains an elusive sentinel at the sector's center
  • Unapproachable: Ships seemingly drift in perpetuity, never bridging the distance
  • A cosmic illusion suggesting massive spatial distortions
  • Attempts to reach it are exercises in futility — you can see it, but never arrive
  • COP and ONI have attempted to study it but failed — current stance is "leave it alone"

True Nature (SECRET)

  • The wormhole is a controlled portal to a Photoli's pocket dimension in the HRZ
  • The "unapproachable" distortion may be selective — the Photoli chooses who enters
  • The spatial distortion is real but may serve as a filter, not a barrier
  • Connected to HRZ space — making it technically a hidden backdoor into the most dangerous zone

Economy: The Gaming Sector

Tourism & Gambling

  • The sector evolved into a thriving tourist destination built on Barrot's legend
  • Opulent gaming estates inspired by his narrative have mushroomed across the sector
  • Visitors wager ATLAS for a chance to earn elusive rewards
  • The games echo the legendary challenges from Barrot's account — wit and strategy
  • A galactic destination that blends mystery, luxury, and risk

Governance

  • Run by local consortiums and casino operators (not faction-controlled)
  • Specific factions and named operators TBD (Creator will develop later)
  • The casinos are the real power in the sector — wealth from tourism dwarfs mineral extraction

Narrative Hooks

  • The Photoli Game Master: A Dark Photoli? Or a mainstream one gone rogue? What are their motives?
  • The Temporal Pendant: A device that could change galactic politics if understood — or weaponized
  • House Xictus: Barrot's Sogmian house now guards artifacts of immense power. Are they aware of the truth?
  • The HRZ Broadcast: An entertainment network in the HRZ watching people die — shades of cosmic gladiatorial culture
  • The Missing Entrants: Everyone assumes the wormhole is unapproachable. But some people DO enter — they just don't come back. Does anyone track the disappearances?
