Communion Sector (ONI 2)¶
"They hunt what has teeth. We do not hunt what has words." — Nimrod Trackers creed, Communion Lodge
Overview¶
Once marred by relentless battles as the ONI races vied for dominance, Communion has transformed from a war-torn prize into a beacon of unity. Formed in ~2498 as the first multi-species colony sector in Galia — composed of Punaabs, Miereses, Photoli, and Sogmians — Communion planted the seeds for the formation of the ONI Consortium. It is a sanctuary for those weary of age-old rivalries and binding traditions.
By ~2550, Communion had risen to become the commercial capital of the ONI Consortium — the most prosperous and interconnected ONI sector. Vast ATLAS investment has elevated it into an intergalactic marvel destination.
The Melting Pot¶
Refugees of Dogma¶
Many Punaabs and Sogmians seeking to escape the rigid shackles of their cultural dogmas have found solace in Communion. Here, individualities are celebrated rather than suppressed by clan or house.
The Third Way — Free Punaabs¶
Communion is becoming a radical alternative for Punaab identity. Neither High (Merchant Princes) nor Profound (Noble Craftsmen), the "Free Punaabs" of Communion embrace pure individualism. This movement may threaten the Dual Monarchy of Akenat long-term, creating a tripartite conflict:
| Philosophy | Location | Values |
|---|---|---|
| High Punaab | Akenat (Upper World) | Capitalism, market orientation |
| Profound Punaab | Akenat (Lower World) | Guild system, communal honor |
| Free Punaab | Communion | Pure individualism |
The Wild Side¶
Biodiversity¶
Communion hosts a kaleidoscope of exotic wildlife — making it a rite of passage for fledgling hunters and a natural headquarters for the galaxy's foremost monster-hunting organization.
The Nimrod Trackers¶
The Nimrod Trackers — a Decentralized Autonomous Community (DAC) of professional monster hunters — operate their headquarters from Communion. Founded by Ekkro Nimrod (Human), they hunt exotic fauna only — never sentient species. Their Lodge houses the Wall of Names — a memorial to every Tracker killed in the field, currently bearing 342 names.
Key operations:
- Founding Hunt: Ekkro Nimrod led fourteen founding members against a Void Shrike nest threatening Communion's agricultural station. Nine days, thirty creatures eliminated, three Trackers lost
- Ashroot Purge (~2588): 3,000 Trackers deployed — the largest single deployment in DAC history
- Glowhaven Contracts: Mega-fauna hunts for the Swamp Lords
- Warden Vothara 𐎃 Exinade: A Sogmian Tracker named honorary clan-sister by the Swamp Lords — the only outsider ever given the title
Governance¶
Rotating Multispecies Council¶
Unlike sectors dominated by a single species, Communion is governed by a multispecies council with rotating leadership. No single species dominates. High Punaab investment is significant but governance is shared — a model that has proved surprisingly resilient.
Key Locations¶
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Nimrod Lodge | Tracker headquarters. The Wall of Names. Contract boards, armories, and the Trophy Hall |
| Convergence District | Commercial hub where all four ONI species trade freely |
| Agricultural Stations | Multi-species farming operations — site of the founding Void Shrike hunt |
| Free Punaab Quarter | Growing enclave of individualist Punaabs who reject the High/Profound divide |
