Frenir (MRZ-19)

Timeline: One of the most recent canon events

Overview

Once notorious as the heart of dictatorship and the epicenter of the slave trade in the outer medium-risk zone, Frenir was first on the Council of Peace's list when it sought to restore harmony to its borders. Even the most hardened factions of the underworld viewed Frenir as a blight — its practices grotesquely outdated for the modern galactic era.

History: The Warlords

Rise to Power

  • Warlords gained power during the chaos of the Convergence War
  • Exploited the power vacuum in the outer MRZ while factions fought each other
  • Established a brutal dictatorship and slave trade
  • Enslaved beings of all species (except Tufa — see note below)
  • Became so disruptive that even other underworld factions considered them a blight
  • ~2533: The Frenir government collapses entirely and slavers formally take over the sector

Ki'Prah — The Sogmian Prison Planet (~2358)

  • Before the warlords' era, Sogmians established a prison planet called Ki'Prah in Frenir (MRZ-19)
  • Purpose: exile Oathbreakers — Sogmians who violated their Du Prah vows
  • ~2364: Punaabs reached an agreement with Sogmians and also began sending exiles and criminals to Ki'Prah
  • Ki'Prah represents the first documented Punaab-Sogmian cooperation
  • Status during the warlord era and COP intervention: unknown

[!NOTE] Tufa are considered a myth by populations in the MRZ and Safe Zones. You will NOT find Tufa on the civilized side of the galaxy. Their existence is known only to those who venture deep into HRZ territory.

The COP Intervention

Vaor Skarca's Invasion

  • Vaor Skarca (Council of Peace leader) used the warlords' excesses as the justification he needed
  • ~2623: Invaded the sector with COP troops in a swift, decisive operation
  • Practically erased the entrenched oppressive systems
  • Established interim governance to oversee the democratic transition

Aftermath of the Warlords

  • Most died during the COP military intervention
  • Survivors split into two groups:
  • Fled to Yuldun Waste (lawless sector)
  • Joined the Jorvik (criminal faction) — waiting for the opportunity to rebuild their empires

The Balifa Grove Attack

"One day, a fortress. The next, vines wrapping around the towers like they were reclaiming old bones." — Commander Seeikolobe Mineefastu

Before the COP intervention, Frenir suffered one of the most devastating ecological terror attacks in galactic history at the hands of the Balifa Grove — the radical ECOS sub-faction led by Arch Druidess Andreza Liora:

  • The Balifa Grove targeted Frenir with a full-scale forced biogenesis campaign — seeding the planet with spores that ate through hull plating and turned cities into forests of death
  • 3,000+ civilians were killed as vegetation consumed urban infrastructure within days
  • ONI Commander Seeikolobe Mineefastu was stationed on Frenir during the attack — he witnessed the transformation firsthand: "Skin turning to moss, lungs choking on their own roots"
  • Andreza's message to Frenir's defenders was simple: "The planet lives, you do not."
  • Seeikolobe's retaliatory response was brutal — he burned three worlds to punish the Balifa Grove. The event deepened the cycle of violence between ONI and ECOS
  • The Balifa Grove later cited the attack as a success: "Even Frenir, once a scar of war, now breathes again beneath Iris' gaze" — Martuce Breeze
  • The orbital bombardment Seeikolobe conducted in retaliation is referenced as one of the most controversial ONI operations of the era

Canon Note: The Frenir attack is a defining trauma for the ONI Consortium, particularly for Seeikolobe, who carries it as the event that taught him "there's no diplomacy with rot. Only fire." His PTSD from this event drives the entire ONI campaign in Chapter 2.

The DAO Experiment

  • The COP aspires to implement Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) throughout the galaxy
  • Frenir is the FIRST place the COP imposed a DAO governance model
  • The DAO runs on the Star Atlas blockchain infrastructure
  • The galaxy watches intently — if it works here, in the worst possible conditions, it could become the model for broader galactic reform
  • A bold experiment: replacing tyranny with decentralized democracy

Reconstruction

ONI Consortium (Direct Patron)

  • The ONI Consortium has claimed Frenir as part of its sphere of influence and is directly supporting reconstruction with resources
  • ONI provides: funding, personnel, technical expertise, supply convoys, and political backing in the COP
  • ONI species (Mierese, Photoli, Punaab) dominate the freed population and the new Transition Council

The Transition Council

  • ~2624: A provisional transition government is formed — a five-seat Transition Council overseeing the DAO experiment
  • Chair Grokk Senna Valel (Mierese, freed slave), Ehr (Photoli, DAO architect), Commandant Nopeenfree (Punaab, security), Tolvak 𐎘 Outro (Sogmian, humanitarian), Plirk Dosk Scarka (Mierese, Hikibashi intelligence)
  • Full details in canon/factions/frenir_new_government.md

Ki'Prah — From Prison to Factory

  • ~2421: During the Sogmian Vega Civil War, all Sogmian troops abandon Ki'Prah — the prison world is left completely unguarded
  • ~2533: Slaver warlords seize the abandoned planet and convert it into a forced labor camp
  • ~2624: After liberation, the infrastructure is repurposed into a massive industrial factory — Frenir's single largest employer
  • Today Ki'Prah produces construction materials, ship components, and processed minerals for reconstruction
  • The factory generates Frenir's first independent revenue stream

The Order of Patrah

  • Patrah was a member of House Outro (Sogmian humanitarian house)
  • He died helping victims during the Convergence War
  • Became a symbol of a more united and empathetic Galia
  • The Sons of Patrah — the Order that bears his name — now provides frontline humanitarian aid to Frenir's freed population
  • Full details in canon/factions/sons_of_patrah.md

House Outro Emissaries

  • Sogmian humanitarian house emissaries led by Tolvak 𐎘 Outro coordinate the physical reconstruction
  • Fulfilling their Du Prah vow: "One who does not live to serve does not serve to live"
  • Providing resources, infrastructure, Ki'Prah factory conversion, and governance expertise

Garadar DAC (Border Security)

  • Garadar DAC dispatches legions to patrol Frenir's borders against slaver resurgence
  • Intercepts slaver scout ships and smuggling routes from Yuldun Waste
  • Provides combat training advisors to the new militia

Galia Medical Union (Trauma & Healthcare)

  • GMU's largest active deployment — field hospitals, trauma programs, and the only mental health services in the sector
  • Treating PTSD, learned helplessness, and the deep cultural scars of generations of slavery

Current State

  • Reconstruction efforts dominate the landscape
  • Long-oppressed inhabitants receiving aid from a multi-faction coalition
  • Democratic institutions forming under interim DAO governance
  • Ki'Prah factory providing economic self-sufficiency
  • The COP garrison is drawing down — independence is approaching

The Lurking Threat

[!WARNING] History has taught that power vacuums are fleeting.

  • Surviving warlords in Yuldun Waste are biding their time
  • Others have embedded themselves within the Jorvik crime network
  • Whispers of an imminent return from the fringes of the Galia Expanse
  • The DAO must establish itself before the old powers regroup

Narrative Hooks

  • Democracy vs. Tyranny: DAO experiment as a race against time before the old masters return
  • Vaor Skarca's Gambit: The COP leader who used the warlords as justification — purely altruistic, or political maneuvering?
  • Patrah's Legacy: A dead Sogmian humanitarian becoming the symbol of hope for an entire sector
  • Jorvik Alliance: Former slave masters joining pirate networks — escalation risk
  • Yuldun Waste: A lawless refuge harboring exiled tyrants — future conflict zone
