Frostsun (MRZ-30)

Frostsun is a sector locked in an eternal wintry embrace.

Overview

Frostsun is a sector locked in an eternal wintry embrace. Its star was harvested by an ancient civilization using crystal energy amplifiers — that civilization is gone, and the star is now in its final centuries. Below the frozen surface, Profound Punaabs have carved thriving underground metropolises, but they are not alone in the depths.

The Star: Crystal-Farmed

Ancient Civilization

  • An ancient, now-destroyed civilization "farmed" the sector's primary star
  • Used a formation of crystals to amplify the star's energy output
  • The civilization was destroyed — their identity lost to time
  • The star, already consumed to a great extent, is now in its last centuries
  • The crystal formations remain, giving the dying star the appearance of a golden-white orb cocooned in shimmering crystal

Environmental Impact

  • The star's decay has cast a chilly pall over all planets
  • Once-thriving ecosystems reduced to frozen landscapes and desolate wastelands
  • Surface life is no longer viable on the main sector planets
  • Only subterranean life is possible, sustained by planetary core heat

The Profound Punaab Underground

Colony Status

  • Formally a colony of Akenat — the Punaab homeworld
  • Loyal to the ONI Consortium, but if forced to choose, would follow Akenat
  • The preeminent Punaab enclave outside their native Evernat

Architecture

  • Follows the Profound Punaab aesthetic: structures of gold, bronze, and red
  • But the ecosystem is very different from Akenat — no fungal forests or geysers
  • Underground cities sustained by planetary core heat
  • Thriving metropolises beneath the ice

Economy

  • Produces and exports vast quantities of food and minerals to Akenat
  • Critical supply chain for the Punaab homeworld
  • Underground agriculture and mining operations

The Native Conflict

[!IMPORTANT] 📌 TO CREATE LATER: Tribes of semi-sentient creatures inhabit the underground alongside the Punaabs.

  • The subterranean realms are contested territory
  • Semi-sentient native creatures view the Punaabs as invaders
  • Ongoing territorial disputes between settlers and indigenous tribes
  • The natives were here first — the ethical dimension adds complexity
  • (Dedicated faction/creature files TBD — Creator will develop)

The Lost Scouts & Lt. Wenn Saga

The Mission

  • During the Convergence War, a brave cadre from Frostsun ventured into the HRZ
  • Became scouts for ONI — mapping the High-Risk Zone
  • ~2518: Frostsun sends reinforcements to support the ONI faction in the HRZ war. After a successful early campaign, they managed to colonize the rich world of Gerio in the HRZ

The Silence

  • ~2524: The Punaabs of Frostsun lose contact with their brethren in Gerio after the chaos that follows the factions' retreat from the HRZ in the aftermath of the Convergence War
  • Five decades without a word since
  • Fate unknown to the Punaabs of Frostsun

The Vigil

  • Active rescue operation with concrete plans — not just passive hope
  • They need more information to proceed
  • This information arrives via the Lt. Wenn Saga (storyline TBD)
  • The Punaabs amass resources and hone readiness, waiting for the intelligence they need

Narrative Hooks

  • Crystal-Farmed Star: Who was the ancient civilization? What else did they build? Are there other farmed stars?
  • Lt. Wenn Saga: The rescue mission — a major storyline connecting Frostsun to the HRZ
  • Native Rights: Punaabs as colonizers displacing indigenous semi-sentient species — moral complexity
  • Dying Star Clock: The star has centuries left — what happens to Frostsun when it dies completely?
  • Akenat Lifeline: If Frostsun falls, Akenat loses critical food/mineral supply
