Hanging Gardens (MRZ-16)¶
Hanging Gardens is the largest ECOS settlement outside Earth-Prime and the primary ECOS presence in the MRZ.
Overview¶
Hanging Gardens is the largest ECOS settlement outside Earth-Prime and the primary ECOS presence in the MRZ. Emerging from the ashes of Old Grove, it became the sanctuary the ECOS always dreamed of. It survives because it's in Ustur space — far from MUD's reach. If MUD could, they would have exterminated ECOS long ago.
Origin: From Old Grove's Ashes¶
- After the Old Grove catastrophe (terraforming gone wrong, genocide, mutant ecosystem), ECOS abandoned the sector
- The primary ECOS fleet journeyed into the HRZ, founding Earth Prime
- Satellite groves and support fleets remained behind in the MRZ
- These remnants solidified ECOS presence via Hanging Gardens
- This is the "High Garden" referenced in Old Grove lore — the correct name is Hanging Gardens
Why Ustur Space?¶
- ECOS fled to this region specifically to be beyond MUD's reach
- The only reason ECOS survived as a faction is their location in Ustur-influenced territory
- MUD would have destroyed them if geography allowed
- Ustur protection (whether intentional or passive) keeps ECOS alive
Spirituality: Sentient Planets¶
The ECOS Belief¶
- ECOS believes that all planets are sentient beings
- They claim to communicate with these planetary entities through daily rituals
- The ceremonies seek guidance and blessings from the planets themselves
- ECOS sees their role as defenders of these sentient worlds
- ~2477: ECOS manages to refine their terraforming and communing technologies in Hanging Gardens — they reportedly succeed, for the first time, in communicating with a higher being (planet)
[!NOTE] This is spirituality without confirmation — there is no canon evidence that planets are actually sentient. Compare with Mierese/Onato (ambiguous) and Sogmian/Du Prah (proven cultural framework).
The Grove Doctrine¶
- ~2493: With their stronghold in Hanging Gardens secured, ECOS establishes the Grove Doctrine
- Under this doctrine, druidesses must leave Hanging Gardens and create their own "groves" in other sectors
- Purpose: to spread the ECOS tenets, expand their influence, and protect galactic wildlife
- This missionary/expansion mechanism transforms ECOS from a localized faction into a galaxy-spanning movement
Economy: Agricultural Linchpin¶
- Agricultural prowess makes Hanging Gardens a linchpin for MRZ food distribution
- Fierce competition with CARY — the civil branch of Calico (MUD manufacturer)
- Both vie to expand influence through strategic trade and commerce
- Whoever feeds the MRZ controls significant geopolitical leverage
Military: The Fimbul ECOS Superphoenix¶
The Titan¶
- The Fimbul ECOS Superphoenix — a majestic ECOS titan ship
- Built by Fimbul (neutral MRZ-native manufacturer from Everstorm)
- Patrols the sector, poised and ready to defend ECOS territory
Official Description¶
This Fimbul masterpiece is the glistening ultimation of design for ferrying a small, flourishing nation of beings on a course through the sea of stars. Terrestrial comforts keep citizens grounded and healthy while on the Superphoenix's eternal cruise. Details small and large call attention to the symbiotic stewardship of nature with intentions to never lose sight of ECOS' shining ideals, even in the darkest recesses of space. This starship is truly an interstellar oasis and rejuvenating respite; it is often a welcome sight to perpetually space-bound travellers and explorers alike. Below decks the Superphoenix is as functional as its atriums are serene. There is no equal in preserving galactic balance.
Key Traits¶
- Nation-carrier: Houses a small, flourishing civilization aboard
- Terrestrial comforts: Designed to keep citizens grounded and healthy
- Symbiotic stewardship: Every detail reflects ECOS' nature-first philosophy
- Interstellar oasis: Welcome sight to space-bound travelers — a respite
- Functional power: Below the serene atriums lies serious military capability
- "No equal in preserving galactic balance" — a statement of ECOS ideology made metal
COP Confrontation¶
[!WARNING] A confrontation between the Superphoenix and the COP armada could ignite another galactic war.
- COP's recent forays into MRZ have created palpable tension
- COP already invaded Pergamos (partly targeting Jorvik/ECOS influence)
- If COP pushes into Hanging Gardens, the Superphoenix stands ready
- This connects to Chior.eldr's opposition to COP aggression
