Izar-248 Sector (MRZ-7)¶
Izar-248 bears the reputation of a perilous sector, officially recognized as such by the Council of Peace.
Overview¶
Izar-248 bears the reputation of a perilous sector, officially recognized as such by the Council of Peace. A mysterious force has shattered all of the sector's moons, creating a high-velocity debris ring that has claimed countless spacefarers.
Key Lore¶
The Shattered Moons¶
- All moons destroyed by an unknown force.
- High-velocity debris ring = lethal to navigation.
- Clouds of dust further obscure the environment.
- Cause: An ancient civilization (distinct from Soletud/Ka-dara) destroyed itself experimenting with groundbreaking gravitational technologies (~1965).
- Survivors: A handful fled underground, founding a subterranean civilization that persists to this day. See
canon/geography/sectors/izar_survivors.md
Surface Ecosystem¶
- Protected by the debris belt, planets fostered a unique ecosystem.
- Deformed creatures roam during brief daylight hours — mutated by the gravitational event.
- Creatures retreat underground when darkness falls.
The Dark Photoli's Experiments (~2588)¶
- ~2588: A Dark Photoli arrives on the surface of Izar-248 and discovers a deposit of genesium — the reality-warping substance
- The discovery reveals that the ancient civilization that caused the gravitational catastrophe (~1965) had access to genesium — a previously unknown connection
- The Dark Photoli begins experimenting with the genesium, spawning terrible monsters that form across the hazed surface of the planet
- These genesium-born creatures are distinct from the existing gravity-mutated fauna — far more dangerous and deliberately created
- ~2598: The genesium monsters descend into the depths of Izar-248, seeking the remains of the ancient population. Many colonies are destroyed in their wake — the surface becomes increasingly uninhabitable
The Chokepoint¶
- One safe route exists through the system.
- A favored Jorvik hunting ground — pirates lie in wait for vessels seeking safe passage.
- Strong MUD escort presence patrols the corridor, but the region is too large and full of hiding spots to root out the Jorvik completely.
Political Influence¶
- Alignment: Unaffiliated (hazard zone)
- COP Status: Officially recognized as perilous
- Military Presence: MUD escorts patrol the safe corridor
- Threat: Jorvik raiders (entrenched, hard to dislodge)
