Verbis Cluster (MRZ-22)

  • ~2489: The Ustur discover the twin-star system of the Verbis Cluster

Overview

  • ~2489: The Ustur discover the twin-star system of the Verbis Cluster

In the Verbis Cluster, a cosmic ballet unfolds as a pair of stars — one crimson, the other azure — dance in a perpetual orbit. Their radiant embrace eliminates darkness, gifting the sector's planets with unending daylight.

While these stars are positioned at a safe distance (ensuring the planets aren't scalded), their presence has nurtured an environment rich in extraordinary life.

Environment

Binary Star System

  • Red + blue binary stars in perpetual mutual orbit
  • The combined radiance eliminates darkness entirely
  • Planets experience eternal daylight — no night cycle exists
  • Stars are distant enough to prevent scorching, but close enough to bathe everything in constant light

Unique Biosphere

  • Ceaseless illumination has birthed species adapted to thrive in eternal luminescence
  • Many species harness the relentless light, converting it into sustenance (photosynthetic life at scale)
  • Life here is marked by truncated lifespans and a complete absence of sleep
  • This unique biology captivates biologists across Galia
  • Visiting species also suffer — constant light exposure naturally affects all biological organisms (sleep disruption, accelerated fatigue, skin damage)

The Janar (Near-Sentient Species)

[!IMPORTANT] The Janar are teetering on the brink of sentience — remarkable beings with natural biological manufacturing capabilities.

Biology

  • Possess a natural aptitude for photopolymerization and photochemical reactions
  • Their bodies become biological factories, producing compounds they later expel
  • These expelled compounds serve as the foundation for structures and tools they craft
  • A testament to their burgeoning intelligence — they are builders without technology

Discovery

  • ~2512: The Ustur formally discover the existence of the Janar
  • The Ustur build a scientific city called Pertuam to study the Janar and the Verbis Cluster

Poacher Siege (~2533–2535)

  • ~2533: Due to the Ustur weakening during the Convergence War, poachers begin raiding the Verbis Cluster to capture or exploit the Janar
  • Pertuam forces fight back against the invaders to protect the near-sentient species
  • ~2535: Although Pertuam forces ultimately win against the poacher raids, the planet suffers critical infrastructure attacks
  • The damage forces the Ustur to withdraw from the sector
  • Before leaving, the Ustur deploy an automated defense system to protect the Janar against foreign attackers

Current Status

  • Protected by automated Ustur defense systems — but the Ustur themselves have withdrawn
  • Other organizations still attempt to hunt and capture them
  • Maintain a cautious distance from other settlements and species
  • Their photopolymerization compounds have known industrial applications and would be extraordinarily valuable if harvested
  • The key deterrent to exploitation: Janar do not develop well in captivity — they cannot be farmed or factory-bred
  • This biological limitation, combined with Ustur/COP protection, is the only thing keeping them safe

Narrative Hooks

  • Pre-sentient contact dilemma: Do you protect the Janar or study them? And who decides?
  • Biological manufacturing: Janar compounds could revolutionize material science — if you can get them ethically
  • Sleepless civilization: What does culture look like when no one sleeps? What replaces dreams?
  • Eternal day psychology: How does constant light affect visiting species adapted to day/night cycles?
  • Poaching threat: The Janar are one leaked report away from galactic exploitation
