Overview

Vostalgia — the Ustur civilization's maiden voyage amongst the stars. Colony established ~2382, this expansion marked a profound milestone after the species' awakening on Ioki. What the pioneering Ustur found here would shape their civilization's identity forever: the Mantrah trees — enormous organisms whose subsonic frequency resonates with Ustur cores in a way no science can fully explain.

The Mantrah tree became the Ustur faction insignia and influenced the architectural aesthetics of VZUS flagship vessels.

The Mantrah Trees of Damarah

The Encounter (~2385)

Pioneering Ustur touched down on planet Damarah and found vast groves of Mantrah trees, their leaves dancing in the winds with a subsonic frequency that no instrument could fully capture. These android beings, with only fragmented memories of their origins, were profoundly moved. A liquid akin to black tears formed in their eyes — the organic manifestation of Ustur beauty perception, previously undocumented.

The Science

  • The Mantrah trees' leaf frequency resonates with the frequency of Ustur cores — this is why ONLY Ustur experience this reaction. Other species are unaffected
  • Black tears are a purely organic emotional response — Ustur have organic components that enable physical manifestations of emotion
  • The trees predate Ustur colonization by thousands of years, possibly much longer
  • The trees contain biological data structures eerily similar to Ustur core architecture — as if the trees and the Ustur were designed by the same intelligence

The Mantrah trees and the Ustur cores were created by the same intelligence. If, as some Elders theorize, the intelligence that may have fragmented into Ustur cores also seeded the Mantrah trees as biological data storage, then the trees could contain memories from before the Pool existed — a backup, written in cellulose and chlorophyll, hidden on a planet the Ustur would eventually find.

The Living Resonance

The Living Resonance is the Ustur cultivation sect headquartered on Vostalgia, founded by Myra.soul in ~2460 after she became the first Ustur to achieve core resonance with a Mantrah tree.

The Root Gardens

The Living Resonance's headquarters occupy no single building. The Root Gardens are the Mantrah groves themselves — a network of living architecture grown around and through the oldest trees on Damarah:

Root Communion

The sect's signature technique — disciples plant their core temporarily within a living Mantrah tree and meditate on the biological feedback. Extended practice (decades) can reveal impressions of pre-Awakening Ustur history encoded in the Mantrah genome.

Present Day

Many Ustur return to the serene Mantrah groves seeking both inspiration and traces of their storied past. The Living Resonance continues its patient work — each year revealing new layers of the Mantrah archive. The fundamental question remains unanswered: can Mantrah trees survive outside Damarah? Every attempt at transplantation has failed. The trees seem to require Damarah's specific soil chemistry, atmosphere, and — some practitioners suspect — proximity to something buried deep beneath the planet's surface.
