Zenith Door (MRZ-36)

Scale: T2 — Sector Power (Chior.eldr governs the entire sector via diplomatic consensus)

Overview

"What truly drives the ruler of the Zenith Door?" The answer is known: genuine peace. But to the rest of Galia, whispers persist.

The Zenith Door stands as a pivotal nexus within the frontiers of ONI and Ustur territory — the closest ONI territory to the borders of the HRZ. Home to the galaxy's foremost academic institution and the COP's elite border fleet, it is ruled by one of the canon's most important characters: Chior.eldr, an Ustur Elder who dreams of a galaxy without factions or wars.

Zenith Door is not merely a sector — it is the origin point of four interlocking storylines that define Galia's modern era:

  1. Chior's peacekeeping crusade — a centuries-long diplomatic project
  2. The Iris Academy — Galia's greatest research institution, architect of Project Starpath
  3. The Herdus Tragedy — a co-founder's descent into madness, cult prophecy, and criminal empire
  4. The COP Crisis — the irony of a peace council waging war, and the Elder trying to stop it

Strategic Importance

  • Nexus between ONI and Ustur territory
  • Closest ONI sector to the HRZ borders
  • Natural chokepoint for any HRZ expansion or exploration
  • Home to both Galia's premier academic institution and the COP's elite border defense fleet

Founding (~2539)

  • ~2539: Chior.eldr and his disciple Herdus.soul discover the wrecked sector of Zenith Door
  • Together they mobilize the local population and, using all of their personal resources, manage to stabilize the sector
  • This act of selfless reconstruction establishes Chior's reputation and lays the foundation for Zenith Door's future as a diplomatic capital
  • ~2545: Chior relocates the Iris Academy (conceptually founded ~2525) to Carvum, an abandoned mining planet in Zenith Door, establishing it as the institution's permanent headquarters

[!NOTE] The Iris Academy was conceptually founded ~2525 by Chior.eldr and Professor Exfeheros during the post-war rebuilding period. It was physically relocated to Carvum in Zenith Door ~2545, after Chior had stabilized the sector (~2539). Both dates are canon — they describe different milestones.

Chior.eldr — Character Profile

The Figure (Major Canon Character)

  • Species: Ustur — rank .eldr (Elder), highest tier of Ustur hierarchy
  • Born: ~2391
  • Trained by: Armi.eldr — the faction leader who guided the Ustur through the Convergence War
  • Twin pupil alongside: Ponel.eldr — who would later become his philosophical opposite
  • As an Elder: virtually immortal (fused with core), can be revived via the Pool of Reincarnation
  • Full artifact-level precision in the Ustur Elder Conscience
  • An exotic Elder who deviates from other Ustur Elders' agendas
  • One of the principal characters of the entire Star Atlas lore

Chior's Vision

  • Seeks balance and peaceful coexistence in Galia
  • Dreams of a galaxy without factions or wars
  • Uses power, wealth, and influence always toward this objective
  • A genuine neutral agent — not aligned with any faction's expansionist goals
  • Possesses unparalleled diplomatic finesse — brokered agreements with almost every significant Galia faction
  • Maintains Zenith Door as an oasis for diplomacy

The Chior-Ponel Divergence

Chior and Ponel were twin pupils of Armi.eldr — the leader who guided the Ustur through the Convergence War. After the war, they diverged completely:

  • Chior → stayed in the Elder Order, became Galia's foremost pacifist diplomat (Zenith Door)
  • Ponel → broke away to found the Anfoil State (MRZ-15) — a meritocratic technate that suppresses emotion

Their opposing philosophies — Chior's empathy-driven diplomacy vs Ponel's cold efficiency — represent the fundamental Ustur schism. Ponel even attempted to bribe or destroy the Iris Academy, viewing it as a rival to Anfoil's own intellectual project.

The Herdus Tragedy

The ghost of Herdus haunts Zenith Door's success.

Chior's greatest failure and Zenith Door's darkest chapter: his own disciple's descent into madness.

Herdus.soul co-founded Zenith Door alongside Chior in ~2539 and likely helped establish the early Iris Academy. But by ~2559, he had left his master and begun wandering the MRZ alone — his reasons unclear: disillusionment? Restlessness? The first whispers of something darker?

The Fall

Year Event
~2539 Co-founded Zenith Door with Chior. A beacon of learning and peace
~2545 Likely involved in establishing the Iris Academy at Carvum
~2559 Leaves Chior.eldr — begins wandering the MRZ alone
~2569 After ascending to the .soul stage, Herdus goes insane — the vast expansion of consciousness may have exposed him to the Dreamer Below's psychic influence
~2577 A mysterious Photoli delivers "The Revelation" — Herdus founds the Church of the Dreamer Below and joins the BMAH in Yuldun Waste
~2577-2624 Rises to Leading Auctioneer of the BMAH while secretly channeling resources to the Church
~2605 Takes infant Saand (Punaab) as a vessel for the Dreamer Below
~2624 Killed by Saand during the Never Alone incident — Church exposed, BMAH scattered

[!IMPORTANT] Herdus.soul is a pivotal character connecting four major storylines: Zenith Door (co-founder with Chior.eldr), Church of the Dreamer Below (founder), BMAH (former leader), and the Never Alone incident (his death). His arc spans from idealist peace-builder to insane cult prophet to underworld kingpin.

Key Institutions

Iris Academy (HQ: Planet Carvum)

"The search for knowledge is the common unifying endeavor of all sentient species."Professor Exfeheros, Headmaster

The galaxy's most prestigious research institute in the known sectors of Galia. A neutral institution devoted to advancing knowledge for the greater good.

Field Value

Professor Exfeheros Platinum Bar

  • Species: Punaab (confirmed via naming convention and multiple cross-references)
  • One of Galia's greatest intellectuals and scientists
  • Friend and ally of Chior.eldr
  • ~2573: Developed specialized equipment enabling exploration of the Weeping Nebula's toxic rain — the first technological breakthrough of its kind
  • ~2576: Established a small Iris Academy research settlement in the Weeping Nebula
  • Authorized a deep-sea exploration expedition to investigate anomalous readings from the Bluevael Prime Dead Zone
  • Ponel.eldr (Anfoil State) has attempted to bribe or destroy the Iris Academy — viewing it as a rival

Carvum — The Academy Planet

  • An abandoned mining planet — Carvum's ancient mines still generate significant revenue as the Academy's sole planetary proprietor
  • Features rural villages alongside multiple research institutions
  • Retired Commander Goe (MUD) lives on a farm near the Academy — a Convergence War veteran who led HRZ expeditions
  • Selected for its strategic location: near the HRZ threshold, within reach of COP governing bodies — a perfect balance of scientific exploration and political influence

Major Achievements

  • Project Starpath — the Academy's defining breakthrough: a revolutionary network of warp gates that reconnected the fractured galaxy and reignited interstellar trade. Ushered in a new Golden Age
  • Galactic Indices: GFI-8 (no army, but former students include top military strategists), GWI-5 (largest research institute, patents, endowments), GPI-3 (COP Senate seat, shapes policy from behind the scenes)
  • Galactic partnerships: Cooperation agreement with the Scriptorium of Lumikir; Anchorage branch in Glowhaven; research settlement in Weeping Nebula; expedition authorized to Bluevael Dead Zone

The Dawn Vanguard

  • COP elite fleet created specifically to guard the HRZ/MRZ border
  • Flagship: C11-class capital ship — commanded by a Sogmian officer
  • Capable of obliterating a squadron of Fimbul Mambas with a single missile barrage
  • Equipped with tractor beams for rescue and recovery operations
  • Elite troops, extremely powerful — first line against HRZ threats
  • Stationed permanently at Zenith Door due to its geographic position

The Paradox of Zenith Door

An elite military force stationed in a pacifist's domain. Chior did not invite the Dawn Vanguard — the COP stationed them here. Their presence is simultaneously:

  • A shield — protecting Zenith Door from HRZ threats (Tufa incursions, unknown dangers)
  • A sword — that could be turned on Chior if his opposition to Scarka becomes too threatening
  • A symbol — of the COP's reach into even the most peaceful corners of Galia

The COP Crisis: Chior vs. Vaor Scarka

The COP's War

[!WARNING] The "war" Chior opposes refers to recent COP invasions of MRZ territories — including Pergamos and Frenir. The peace-keeping body has become an aggressor.

  • The COP, under Vaor Scarka's influence, has invaded MRZ sectors:
  • Pergamos — COP military intervention (canon/geography/sectors/pergamos.md)
  • Frenir — COP-imposed order after warlord era (canon/geography/sectors/frenir.md)
  • Scarka's declared milestones: Frenir slave traders destroyed, Jorvik influence disrupted, Pergamos agreements signed
  • Despite a declared cease-fire, the threat of escalation remains

Chior's Counter-Offensive (Diplomatic)

  • ~2623: Chior.eldr vocally opposes the COP's military expansionism
  • Calls for an emergency cease-fire vote: COP army limits + MRZ population rights
  • Proposes an emergency motion for Council DAO approval
  • Behind the scenes, the Ustur faction seeks a peaceful resolution

The Free Cities of Humanity

  • ~2623: Redam (MRZ-1) reaches out to old MUD colonies including Zenith Door and Free Harbors to pressure COP into accepting a truce in the MRZ
  • This loose alliance — the Free Cities of Humanity — represents the first organized MRZ-wide resistance to COP military expansion, and Chior is its most prominent voice

The Rivalry

  • Chior.eldr: Genuine peace through diplomacy, consensus, and centuries of patient relationship-building
  • Vaor Scarka: Victory only through vanquishing adversaries and expanding COP dominion
  • This is the galaxy's highest-stakes rivalry — an immortal Elder vs. the most powerful military commander in Galia

Diplomatic Network

Chior's centuries of diplomatic work have woven Zenith Door into a web of relationships across Galia:

Partner Nature Notes
Redam (MRZ-1) Free Cities ally Leading the MRZ truce pressure on COP
Free Harbors Free Cities ally Joined Redam's outreach to pressure COP
Iris Academy Home institution Chior co-founded it; Exfeheros is his closest ally
Eol Garadar Philosophical parallel Both seek peace — Chior via diplomacy, Zagah.eldr via action
Anfoil State Philosophical rival Ponel.eldr's breakaway — opposite methods, shared Ustur origin
COP Tense alignment Opposes Scarka's militarism but works within COP structures

Narrative Hooks

  • Chior's Crusade: An immortal Elder using centuries of wisdom to prevent galactic war
  • Exfeheros & Chior: The academic and the diplomat — allies shaping Galia's future from Zenith Door
  • COP as Aggressor: The irony of a peace council waging war — and the man trying to stop it from within
  • Dawn Vanguard Tension: An elite military force stationed in a pacifist's domain — shield, sword, or leash?
  • HRZ Gateway: What comes from beyond the border that requires this level of defense?
  • The Herdus Ghost: Chior's co-founder became a cult prophet and criminal kingpin — does Chior know the full truth?
  • The Chior-Ponel Mirror: Two students, one master, opposite conclusions — who was right?
  • Iris Academy Secrets: Hidden vaults of classified combat technology. What else does Carvum hide beneath its mining tunnels?
