Photoli society lacks a central government.

Biology & Nature¶

• Age: Ancient and enigmatic species, often considered the original conscious life-forms of the universe.
• Appearance: Unique beings of light with partially physical bodies. No two look the same.
• Accessories: Do not use clothing/accessories (ancient nature renders them unnecessary).
• Mastery: Unparalleled mastery over physics, time, energy, and light.

Visual DNA (from Concept Art)¶

• Humanoid silhouette with extended proportions — elongated limbs, towering physique
• Translucent marble-like skin — grey/white with luminous white veins running like organic circuits
• Internal light — glow emanates from within, tracing lines across the body
• Featureless head — angular, almost helmet-like cranial structure, no visible eyes/mouth
• Geometric/runic glyphs float around their bodies — circles, arcs, cosmic symbols — like an aura of mathematics
• No clothing — the body itself IS the presentation; sculpted like living marble with inner radiance
• Muscular but ethereal — simultaneously physical and intangible

Light-Shaping (Shape-Shifting)¶

[!IMPORTANT] Photoli can change their appearance by molding their light. This explains how Om visits the Lumikir incognito — he reshapes his luminous form to appear different or diminished.

• They can alter their visual form by reshaping the light they emit and the structure of their partially-physical body
• This ability ranges from subtle alterations to potentially full disguise
• Enables Photoli like Om to move unrecognized when needed

Society & Hierarchy¶

Photoli society lacks a central government. They are highly self-sufficient.

Two Tiers¶

1. Sih Rihim (The Ascended): Beings of pure light with immense power and wisdom.
2. Alumni (The Students): Younger Photoli striving to master elements for transformation into pure light.

The Travelers (Sub-faction)¶

• Reject the pursuit of ascension and strict orthodoxy.
• Role: Observers who find joy in subtly influencing other species' growth (without direct interference).
• Philosophy: Distance themselves from Ascended/Alumni machinations to avoid harm.
• Action: Might inadvertently accelerate a civilization's progress by centuries.

Essence Trading & Governance¶

• System: Identify power/voting through the sacrifice of their own life force (Life Essence).
• Awareness: Every Photoli knows exactly when they will die (dissipate into natural light).
• Voting: Collective decisions are settled by pouring essence into a rayanite crystal during an Iris Majesty cycle.
• A single Photoli can influence weighty decisions if willing to sacrifice significant life span.
• Dispute Resolution: Settled by essence transfer.

Prohibition of Conflict¶

• Rule: Direct conflict between Photoli is strictly forbidden (Andromeda legacy).
• The ONI Paradox: They justify ONI membership as a means to an end. Startling revelation: A relevant faction of Photoli has a hidden agenda — to use the ONI's expansion to eventually acquire access to Iris (eternal energy source). They are playing the "long game".

Dark Photoli (The Exiles)¶

• Nature: Predatory entities that grow stronger the longer they survive.
• Why they don't unite: Arrogance and paranoia. They fear being drained by each other.
• Weakness: Born weaker than traditional Photoli (due to lack of natural light), so they cannot yet openly challenge the Photoli/Galia.
• Status: 7 known individuals, functioning as dangerous loners/outcasts.
• ~2558: A powerful Photoli turns dark and begins plotting the conquest of Iris for himself. He later strikes a deal with Ingbus (canon/geography/sectors/ka_dara.md) (~2569)

The Ritual of Ascension¶

• Process: For other species, it is a gradual transmutation.
• Requires immense resources, time, compatibility, and luck.
• The individual slowly gains Photoli properties and powers.
• Mechanics:
• Willing/sentient candidate.
• Essence of Pure Light + Energy Source + Catalyst.
• Chant/Ritual binding.

Locations¶

• Dawnbreak: Official hidden base in the High-Risk Zone (HRZ).
• Clarification: Located in the HRZ, but NOT inside the Cataclysm.
• Iris denies them entry to the Cataclysm proper.

History¶

• ~2080: Photoli cross into Galia through the Night Window Sector, draining the star's energy to recharge after their journey from Andromeda.
• ~2086: Photoli Om is saved by primitive creatures in MRZ-27 — he grants them knowledge, and they rename themselves the Lumikir.
• ~2095: Photoli inter the Ah'Rihvael family — an ancient Photoli family whose time was over — beneath the oceans of Bluvael's six habitable worlds. They cast an enormous sector-wide illusion to hide the tombs (the Drowned Vaults).
• ~2120: Photoli Ahr visits Planet Earth, using illusion to manipulate humanity into forming a space-based religion and leaving Earth permanently.
• ~2135: Photoli discover a powerful creature (the "Dreamer Below") in the heart of planet Etira (Yuldun Waste, MRZ-32). Unable to destroy it, they steal its memories, seal it in a subterranean pool, and terraform Etira's atmosphere to be lethally hostile — preventing anyone from reaching it.
• ~2136: Photoli drain Night Window's star energy and construct Dawnbreak — a hidden fortress in the HRZ.
• Convergence War: Joined ONI Consortium as "witnesses and wardens".
• Public Goal: Guidance and preservation of life (Du Prah support).
• Hidden Agenda: Positioning themselves to eventually access Iris/Energy.
• The Titan Secret: A disguised Photoli taught House Garveil how to build the Titan's power source in the HRZ.
