Punaab
Biology & Nature
- Sentient mammals with two distinct branches (High and Profound)
- Both branches originate from the same primordial species, diverged due to climatic events
- NO TAILS — critical anatomical rule
- Come in various colors and shapes (generally small); may have more or less fur
- Compulsive eaters: always keeping food nearby — nutrition bars, apples, snacks
- Language: Rich in commerce/craftsmanship terms; heavy accent causes misunderstandings between branches and with other species
- Communication: Animated speech with wild gestures that intensify with excitement
- Materialistic: Both branches share fervent love for gold, jewels, and cultural artifacts
- Personality: Full of superstitions and beliefs; naturally comedic to other species
- Heightened sense of smell: Punaabs possess a very developed sense of smell. If a Punaab comes close enough to rare bio-materials or important resources, they may detect them before other species — effectively functioning as living scanners for valuable materials
- Scale: High Punaab ~60cm (knee-height), Profound Punaab ~40cm (calf-height)
The Two Branches
High Punaabs (Merchant Princes)
- Appearance: Slightly larger, dog-like forms with white/light tiger-patterned or golden/beige fur
- Culture: Paragons of capitalism and market orientation
- Society: Mostly decentralized, individualistic, profit-oriented
- Lifecycle: Venture beyond Akenat at maturity → traveling merchants → return wealthy as "merchant princes"
- Values: Contracts, private property, free markets (except homeworld ecosystem preservation)
- Style: Flamboyant — strong colors, bold designs, gold, accessories from other civilizations
- Habitat: Lofty trees, plateaus, Skygroves above the Sea of Mist
Profound Punaabs (Noble Craftsmen)
- Appearance: Smaller, rat/meerkat-like with gray/dark fur, more robust
- Culture: Medieval guild system — workers, craftsmen, miners
- Society: Centralized order with hierarchical layers
- Values: Nobility, honor, sacrifice, duty; communal: "give more than you take"
- Style: Practical, reserved — clothes bear stains and marks of toil, monocles
- Habitat: Subterranean depths, Silver Caverns
Government: Dual Monarchy
| Role | Branch | Description |
| King of the Merchant Princes | High Punaab | Leader of the decentralized merchant society |
| King of the Guilds | Profound Punaab | Leader of the centralized guild order |
| Governor of the Mists | Neutral | Governs the City in the Middle; mediates between the two kings |
- Both kings are recognized as symbols of their respective branches
- They collaborate and argue constantly — mediated by the Governor
- Despite different systems, both are mutually recognized as legitimate leadership
Homeworld: Akenat (The Hourglass World)
Sector: Evernat (ONI space) — believed to predate some HRZ regions
Structure (Hourglass)
- Top: Enormous bountiful forest on giant clamshell plateaus — High Punaab territory
- Middle: Sea of Mist — thick volumetric layer
- Bottom: Labyrinthine spore caves and deep mines — Profound Punaab territory (harsh)
The Sea of Mist (Akenat's Lifeblood)
- Underground spores from mushroom beds mix with hot currents from planet's core
- Rise as geysers enriched with gases and minerals
- Form the Sea of Mist
- Absorbed by upper-world plants → exhaled at top → cools → falls as rain → cycle repeats
Points of Interest
| Location | Description |

| Mistheart Sanctum | Sacred — where spores and moisture converge. Site of Day of the Union. God summoned here in crises |
| Geyserfields of Belpraakatu | Mist inception point. Profound harness energy; High use moisture for aerial farms |
| Silver Caverns | Subterranean resonant tunnels. Bioluminescent Luminous Myxelio. Profound mine grey minerals |
| Skygroves of Yointalie | High Punaab aerial agriculture and creative retreats |
| Ogrika Harbors | In City of Mist. Neutral ground for trade, tech exchanges, diplomacy |
Punaab Timeline (Aeon)
- ~2280: After years of wars and conflicts, Punaabs divide Akenat into two regions — above and below the Sea of Mist
- ~2329: Punaabs ascend to the stars
- ~2331: A new generation of High and Profound Punaabs build the City in the Middle — the first common meeting place
- ~2335: Frostsun sector colonized by Punaabs
- ~2337: Punaabs create the Ogrika Harbors
- ~2364: Punaabs reach an agreement with Sogmians and begin sending exiles and criminals to Ki'Prah (prison planet in Frenir, MRZ-19) — the first documented Punaab-Sogmian cooperation
- ~2471: Merchant Prince Ayevat discovers Denebula Sector and founds the Kingdom of Finance
Religion: The Cult of Mist
The God of the Mist (Many Names)
- The Guardian Deity = The Great Squid = God of the Mist — all names for the same entity
- Immortal entity as ancient as Akenat itself
- A squid of colossal proportions
- 99.9% of the time sleeping inside the Sea of Mist on Akenat
- Rises ONLY in the Punaabs' darkest hours to guide and shield them
- Summoned at Mistheart Sanctum during crises
The Puri (Offspring of the God)
- Physical offspring of the God of the Mist
- Small aquatic creatures with enormous eyes, dumpling/octopus-like appearance (pink/flesh-toned, wide naïve eyes, small fins)
- Kept on Punaab ships — religious practice
- Considered living symbols of the God's blessing
The Puri Ritual (Dispute Resolution)
- Elaborate ritual with symbols, incense, and ceremonial elements
- Two alternatives placed inside a special aquarium within the Sea of Mist
- A Puri is released into the aquarium
- Whichever option the Puri swims toward is declared the winner
- This is the official method of settling disputes between the two branches
- Archon Inference: Since Puri are carried on ships across the galaxy, and the God of Mist has residual connection to them, the creature possesses the largest passive sensing network in Galia. It doesn't process this with sophisticated intelligence — it feels sensations and tries to guide/soothe/redirect the Punaab accordingly. The Punaab don't know this.
Core Beliefs
- All Punaabs share the same divine essence, blessed by the mist in various forms
- Fosters openness to other cultures — all sentient beings share divine blessing
- Religious body from both branches, trained at cult HQ in City in the Middle
- Study Punaab history, leadership, religious canons, and specializations
Day of the Union
- Celebrates interdependence and shared heritage of both branches
- Commemorates past wars and the choice of unity
- Held at Mistheart Sanctum
Conflict & History
- The two branches have fought wars in the past
- Tensions once threatened civil war → engineers proposed Ogrika as a unifying endeavor
- Dying World Incident: A Punaab colony on a world in MRZ-31 (Glowhaven) (between ONI and Ustur space) destabilized its planetary core through experiments. Ustur were the only ones who offered rescue. This created a deep bond between the species → led to Ustur joining Ogrika
Faction Alignment
- ONI Consortium founding members — remain aligned with ONI today
- During the Convergence War exile, Sogmian Kur Faists sought Punaab alliance: described as "quick-minded and too often cornered"
- Punaab contribution to ONI: gold — "Gilded by Punaab gold" (from Maharog chronicle)
- Friendly and commercial relations with both ONI and Ustur
- View ECOS as "crazy terrorists"
- With COP's rise, maintain amicable galactic relationships
Ogrika Manufacturer
- Created to prevent civil war between the two branches
- After Convergence War → became multi-faction entity
- Ustur rescued Punaab population from dying world → gratitude → Ustur joined Ogrika
- Values: Style, comfort, sovereignty, presence
- Motto: "Even more important than getting the job done is impressing everyone in the room while doing it."
- Combines Profound precision + High Punaab opulence
- Renowned galaxy-wide for exceptional ship-crafting that blends style with function
