Sogmian

  • Enormous construction spanning thousands of kilometers in the Segal Sector
  • Where every Sogmian is trained after infancy
  • Strict hierarchy reflected in accommodations, food, and rights

Biology & Physiology

  • Skin: Purple/pale blue, noble alienoid appearance
  • Dimorphism (Exaggerated Gender Roles):
  • Male: Ultra-masculine, smoother head with distinctive cranial structure. Emanate radiant heat that can be sensed ambiently
  • Female: Ultra-feminine, shorter head-tails/tentacles with glowing red visors. Exude a sense of seduction that affects even other species
  • External head features make arousal impossible to hide
  • Evolved from vicious feral animals in the Segal Sector
  • High romanticism = central purpose (essential for survival after near-extinction)
  • No belief in afterlife — find meaning in the temporal state of life
  • Treat bodies as temples — tattoos rare and must be meaningful; scars = badges of honor
  • Every Sogmian trained as warrior from childhood; commonly carries at least one weapon

Philosophy: Du Prah (Sogmian Vows)

The Du Prah are absolute moral rules designed to contain the Sogmians' innate excesses (lust, greed, pride) and steer them toward virtue. Similar to categorical imperatives in human philosophy.

Core Principles

  • Must be upheld under any circumstances, even at the cost of one's life
  • Stand for justice at all times
  • Never go back on promises
  • Use violence only when necessary to cease previous violence
  • Cooperate for the greater good
  • Provide shelter for those who seek it

Origin

  • Before the Du Prah, Sogmians fought brutal battles for hundreds of years driven by primal impulses
  • Segal (the founder) formulated the Vows and established the Noble Houses system
  • Directed fervent energies toward productive societal endeavors

Naming Convention

Name + Generation Number + House + Role

  • Generation numbers use an alien numeral system (e.g., 𐎌)
  • Example: Bekalu 𐎌 Xictus Sov'arei

The Gray Citadel

Overview

  • Enormous construction spanning thousands of kilometers in the Segal Sector
  • Where every Sogmian is trained after infancy
  • Strict hierarchy reflected in accommodations, food, and rights

Training Process

  1. Born as Ke Pro (infant with family)
  2. Parents bring child to Citadel on a specific day each year
  3. Ceremony → accepted as Vok Prah (student)
  4. Training is harsh; performance dictates status
  5. Higher floors = higher achievement (top student = apex accommodations)
  6. Students divided into competing classes — teamwork fostered through shared benefits/penalties
  7. Point system = currency for eating, family visits, activities
  8. Free day each week for relaxation
  9. Supervised missions as students grow

The Point System

  • Rigid code establishes what awards/deducts points
  • Influences behavior, grades, and privileges
  • Academic body has been cautious about excessive deductions (pressure concerns)
  • Functions as internal economy of the Citadel

Outcomes

  • Top student of the year → strong candidate for Kur Faist or Sov Arei
  • Graf Har (professor) = high-status occupation
  • Creates lifelong bonds — most Sogmians form closest friendships here
  • Training is now easier than before the Convergence War

Noble Houses (6 Active + 1 Banished)

House Color Motto Domain
Xictus Obsidian Black "The brave only dies once. The coward dies every day." Warriors — front lines of Sogmian armada
Garveil Azure "Repetition is the mother of learning." Scholars/Science — research, experimentation, method
Exinade Vermilion "To the Stars." Scouts/Explorers — HRZ expeditions, carefree, never produced a Sov Arei
Outro Snow White "One who does not live to serve does not serve to live." Humanitarian — charities, hospitals, farms, orphanages
Lutavira Violet "Rise, win, conquer." Leaders — natural-born commanders, most fundamentalist Du Prah followers
Busan Burnt Umber "Your creations are your path to transcendence." Crafters/Builders — ships, infrastructure, technology
Akalma Crimson Red "Embrace your emotions." BANISHED — fell after Vega Fall coup

Akalma: The Banished House

  • Motto was perceived as nearly violating the Du Prah itself from inception
  • Allowed to exist because Segal himself established them to help find equilibrium
  • Produced many heroes AND tyrants — always the outliers
  • With them gone, Sogmians grew even more radical in Du Prah interpretation → contributed to near-extinction in the Convergence War
  • Despite exile, House Akalma retained its dynastic structure deep in the HRZ. ~2600: Jefos, prince of House Akalma, is born — the Cosmic Currents release an intense storm at his birth
  • ~2621: Jefos and a crew of young Akalma Sogmians leave the HRZ for the Medium Zone, seeking to redeem House Akalma

Busan: Native Manufacturer

  • House Busan has crafted everything from the first wheels to the first fusion drives
  • Ship designs influenced by animals from their homeworld
  • Reflect the duality between warriors and emotional beings
  • Believe in transcending mortality through creations
  • Ships carry poetic names:
  • Maiden Heart (luxury show-piece)
  • The Last Stand (heavy combat — first known TITAN class ship)
  • Thrill of Life (racing/speed)

Language

  • Based around sounds and emotional tales
  • Words sound like cries, calls, and emotional outbursts
  • Poetic to those who study it; rabid to those who don't

Clothing & Style

  • Elegant dress reflecting status and house colors
  • Own fashion style for special occasions in home systems; standard clothing outside
  • Accessories: discreet, utilitarian (badges, bracelets, necklaces, AI watches)
  • Extravagant accessories reserved for festivities only
  • Always carries at least one weapon

History: Key Events

1. The Founding — Segal and the Du Prah

  • ~1461: Life begins on the Sogmian homeworld (later named Segal) — the start of the Primitive Era
  • Before Segal: hundreds of years of brutal, primal warfare
  • ~1745: Segal the Wise is born amidst the Sogmians
  • ~1826: Segal formulated the Vows (Du Prah) and established 7 Noble Houses — end of the Primitive Era
  • Transformed Sogmians from feral combatants to structured civilization
  • ~1830: Segal dies — just 4 years after founding the civilization he shaped
  • ~2305: House Busan creates the first Sogmian ship manufacturer
  • ~2340: Sogmians ascend to the stars
  • ~2358: Sogmians create a prison planet for Oathbreakers called Ki'Prah in MRZ-19 (Frenir Sector)
  • ~2364: Punaabs reach an agreement with Sogmians and begin sending exiles and criminals to Ki'Prah — the first documented Punaab-Sogmian cooperation

2. The Vega Fall (Civil War)

  • ~2363: Vega is born on Segal (House Akalma)
  • ~2382: Vega quickly rises through Akalma House ranks due to genius and combat prowess; his unique Vow "Sogmians first and foremost" spreads
  • ~2399: Vega becomes House Akalma Leader; members from other houses flock to Akalma under his charismatic leadership
  • ~2416: Vega is acclaimed as leader of all Sogmians (Sov Arei); he moves the capital from Segal to Akalma House HQ in MRZ-24
  • ~2419: Voices raise concern over Vega's policies — disregarding non-Sogmian allies, rumors of exploitation and even cannibalism of other sentient species
  • ~2420: A reporter from House Outro infiltrates Vega's stronghold and produces undeniable proof of honorless practices; other houses rise to depose Vega
  • ~2420–2423: The Sogmian Vega Civil War erupts; House Akalma attempts a coup but is defeated in a bloody conflict; Vega killed; entire House Akalma banished to exile
  • ~2421: During the civil war, all Sogmian troops abandon Ki'Prah (Frenir) to fight — the prison world is left unguarded
  • ~2423: House Outro is rewarded with control of the Akalma Exile sector for their role in exposing Vega
  • ~2424: The banished Sogmians from Akalma settle in a remote star sector, renaming it Akalma Exile

3. The Convergence War (Sogmian Perspective)

Phase 1 — The Sovereign Vow (Book II): Empress Paizul invoked the Sovereign Vow of Direct Verification to inspect the Cataclysm personally. Rejection of foreign intel.

  • Discovery: Found Fallen House Akalma operating violently in the region.
  • The Influence: Detected a psychic pressure ("Something is present").
  • The Conclusion: The Cataclysm was not neutral; it was exerting influence.

Phase 2 — The Shield: Sogmians intervene to protect the Tufa ("Children of the Cataclysm") who were being auctioned as cargo and enslaved. Intercepted auctions disguised as treaties, used fleets to shield Tufa worlds. Du Prah demanded it: shelter those who cannot defend themselves.

Phase 3 — Retaliation: Galia's powers answered with sieges, boycotts, famine, and military attacks on Sogmian systems.

Phase 4 — The Shattering: Sov Arei Paizul (Bekalu's wife) was assassinated on 2520-07-17. The Sogmian race was driven to near-extinction — only 10,000 members remained. Assassin unknown to this day. Bekalu led ALL Sogmians into exile.

  • The Titan Secret: A House Garveil scholar (pilgrim seeking knowledge) encountered a disguised Photoli in the HRZ.
  • The Photoli provided the technology to create the power source for the Titan.
  • The Last Stand mk. I (first TITAN class ship) was forged here.
  • ~2522: The Sogmians complete their Titan Ship — Busan — The Last Stand mk. VIII. The warship served as a fortified city to protect the remaining Sogmians. This weapon of war was so intimidating it caused the other factions to encourage peace talks

Phase 5 — ONI Formation: While Bekalu built the Titan, Sogmian Kur Faists crossed the void seeking allies:

  • Punaabs: "quick-minded and too often cornered"
  • Mierese: "hammered thin by ordinances they did not vote for"
  • Photoli: "witnesses and wardens, lending presence if not hands"
  • Trust built through action: guarding caravans, bringing bread, keeping weapons sheathed
  • The ONI Consortium was born: "Gilded by Punaab gold, hardened by Sogmian discipline, guided by Photoli wisdom, driven by Mierese prowess"

Phase 6 — The Reckoning: The Last Stand + ONI armada returned. Constellations surrendered at the sight of their subwarp. Mercy for those who surrendered; justice for those who refused. Some excesses occurred (e.g., erasure of MUD forces within Daestina — though ALL major factions were aggressors in the war).

Phase 7 — The Akalma Reckoning (end of war): Bekalu's armada devastated the Akalma Exile sector — against the wishes of House Outro, who held stewardship of the sector since the Vega Fall. This act generated deep grief and resentment between House Xictus (Bekalu's house) and House Outro. Bekalu showed last-minute mercy — allowed Akalma fleets to retreat into HRZ. Self-imposed edict: Sogmians forbidden from Akalma Expanse forever. MUD filled the vacuum (ECOS did not exist as a major force yet — they rose in the post-war vacuum).

~2528: Pressed with guilt over the Akalma massacre and the rift with House Outro, Bekalu resigns the function of Sov Arei. The position passes to a new leader (identity TBD).

Phase 8 — The Accord: Treaty of Peace signed. Access to the Cataclysm sealed. Nine days and nights of feasting with ONI allies. Council of Peace created for galactic governance. Star Atlas blockchain established for economic infrastructure. Starpath warp-gates connected the void. The Golden Era began.
